Bobby Whisman is one of the most talented, purposeful artisans I have met, and thinks a lot about how to turn four walls into an intentional living space, or a forgotten attic into bedrooms and a place where people can live together comfortably. He also creates beautiful furniture, and can do more than with a piece of wood than anyone I know.

He is also a friend, we have worked on projects together over many years (he built the cross and kneelers for the display at All Souls Church) and his wife Sarah is a dear friend that goes places with me that I cant go with many other women. They have a long haired 4 year old boy Kai that also has my heart.

It was such an act of love and joy to tell Bobby’s story through website development, photography, content writing and graphic design. I interviewed him at length about the passion behind his company Anawim Spaces, and tried to illustrate a look that combined the history and tradition behind the term Anawim, with the modern and innovative work that Bobby does today.

Anawim (pronounced ann-a-weem) is a Hebrew word from the Old Testament which describes the ones who remained faithful to God in times of difficulty. These humble people became known as the anawim or the “faithful remnant.” This is very much the ethos of the Whismans and Anawim Spaces.

Check out Bobby’s work here on the site for Anawim Spaces, and Sarah's kind words about my work.

"Recently we worked with Katie to develop our website and trusted her to tell the story of my husbands craftsmanship with images from home renovation projects for past clients.
I knew the photos would be amazing and worthy of a home improvement magazine (and they were) but what brought me to tears was the thoughtful way Katie told our story through words and images. She spent so much time with us really getting to know us and our business and was able to translate what she gathered into the most beautiful story. After I stopped crying when I saw the website I told my husband, "wow, we're amazing, I want to hire us." Every word she wrote was truth, Katie has an amazing talent for pulling out beauty that her subjects don't even know is there."
